Exploring the Dark Side: Dark Tourism Sites Visited Around the World
Is dark tourism a growing trend among travelers around the world? Visitors seeking out attractions and locations that are associated with death, tragedy, bizarreness, and the macabre. Dark tourism includes visiting sites that are considered to be unordinary, tragic, and sometimes even scary. I myself have always been fascinated by dark tourism, even before it was a thing. I enjoy learning about the darker side of history and realizing that travel is not always pretty and perfect. This post we’ll take a look at some of the dark tourism sites I’ve visited around the world. **This post contains affiliate links. If you click on one of the links or banners…

A Day in Kona -Beer, Coffee, and Tourists
This is post 5 of 5 in the series “Hawaii's Big Island” Hawaii’s Big Island is perfect for the typical outdoor enthusiast. There are not a whole lot of big cities on this island and access to nature and beautiful scenery is easily within reach! Most visitors come to Hawaii’s Big Island for the volcanoes, but there is so much more to it, although I highly recommend spending a day at Volcanoes National Park, it was a highlight. Exploring the island by car opens up so many opportunities. Visitors can stop at some of the waterfalls, pull off and gaze out at the beautiful ocean and dramatic coastlines, or spend…

Kansas The Sunflower State
Kansas the Sunflower State or the state that everyone wants to drive by as quickly as possible when cruising along I-70. Kansas gets a bad reputation since most people think of Kansas as being flat, boring, agricultural, and having no nature or attractions. I to had the same misconception regarding Kansas until I actually moved and lived there for nearly eight years. That’s right, I moved to the Kansas City area for work right after college and have a lot of wonderful memories of this state. If looking at a map of the United States, Kansas is pretty easy to identify as it is nearly in the center of the…

10 Things I Love About the United States
I’ve lived in the United States longer then any other country. Sadly, I have only been to 34 out of the 50 States, but it is a goal of mine to visit all US States and Territories. Many people don’t understand how large and diverse America truly is. It still surprises me sometimes during road trips, driving for several hours and still being in the same state. Because of the variety of cultures, cities, people, and environment, America does not have a single identity instead it is a mix of everything and that is what makes the United States truly unique. The list below highlights the 10 things I love…

A List of my top 15 Favorite UNESCO Sites
United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization = UNESCO Most of us have heard of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, I hope! But do we truly understand the meaning and significance of these sites? According to the UNESCO website, their mission is to build peaceful relationships internationally through education, science, and culture. Heritage Sites are areas around the world that are legally protected by UNESCO. World Heritage Sites (WHS) are set up by UNESCO for their historical, cultural, natural, educational, and scientific significance. WHS are not just structures created by man but can also be natural wonders of the world. As of now, there are 1154 World Heritage Sites across 167…

My Favorite and Most Surprising Beer Destinations
I would be lying if I said beer does not have any impact on my travels. Before I venture out to a new destination, I always check my Untappd app and do research on potential breweries and taprooms where I’ll be staying. I love finding places in town and trying local brews. When Jill and I travel, we are out all day on our feet walking 40,000 steps give or take. To break things up or at the end of the day we always find ourselves at a brewery and honestly it is usually a highlight of my day. There is something about the atmosphere of breweries/taprooms, the people there,…
